The Curate Story
How we got here
1 - Conversation.
We’ve all got a bit of storyteller in us, don’t we? Handwritten notes, insta captions, chats in the common bathroom, a phone call home - these are all ways we share our life stories. Well, here on campus we have an abundance of anecdotes just waiting to be shared with you.
Curate was imagined between friends sharing lattes in our favorite corner of Rough Draft. In a conversation about better serving our female students, we asked ourselves - how can we share our collections of ideas, lessons learned (and still learning!) and insights on life?
Just like that an idea was sparked. Curate was born.
2 – Support.
What, truly, was the inspiration for Curate? One word. Women.
Women supporting women. Women encouraging women.
Women sharing with women. Women serving women.
We could all use a bit more of that, don’t you think? Curate is a new avenue for fostering conversations, encouragement, and real-talk.
3 – Community.
We all recognize the importance of community. In Hillsdale, there’s a great community of adults on campus AND a great community of students on campus. What if these could combine into one giant, earth-shattering, never been done before, one-of-a-kind community? *lightbulb* What if students could know all the adult women on campus? What if students could connect with each other over the stories they read in a newsletter? What if students could learn from the mistakes we’ve made and wisdom we’ve accumulated. Now there’s an idea.
4 – Development.
Ready for the first tidbit of sage advice we have for you? Never stop growing. Develop yourself. Develop others. Attempt a new skill. Forge a new friendship. Challenge your comfort zones. Learn from others. But how?
We know there’s an overwhelming amount of self-development, words of wisdom, and adulting tips out there (thank you bloggers). Trust us, we’ve done our fair share of digging through this content. So, where do you begin? That’s where we hope to help. Think of us as a mentor/friend/coach/sister sharing a favorite book, podcast, blog, newsletter, website, quote, life experience, piece of advice, Bible verse...you get the picture.
Plain and simple, we love investing in personal growth and we want to share our discoveries with you.
5 – Perspective.
While the two of us could probably curate good content to share, it would be a little one dimensional. We’ve seen, experienced, and discovered the world through one point of view (well, technically two), and it's not always how life unfolds.
As you've most likely learned, College is a partnership, and we have great partners. We’ve got yo-pros and experienced pros, introverts and extraverts, Enneagram 1-9’s, plant moms, dog moms, and real moms – all here to share with you ample perspective on a variety of topics. We’ve spent our summer curating content, advice, and resources – we can’t wait to share them with you.
